2007 marked the year of MB-F’s President Bobby
Christiansen’s 50th birthday. Modern health care and wellness keep many
living close to 100 and a 50th birthday is a sort of a “mid-point” in life.
This mid point is sometimes accompanied by a mid-life crisis, particularly
among men. This is a time when some men chase after young women or buy an
expensive sports car in a feeble attempt to show they still “have it.” Well,
“Those options are too expensive” says Bobby who has been happily married to
Jill for 22+ years. So, to help cope with this mid-life point, Bobby has
decided to run 100 miles!
Yes, that’s right, 100 miles...
all at one time... and hopefully in less than 24 hours. Bobby has run
several marathons and ultra marathons over the years, including several
Boston and New York marathons. He qualified, entered, and was accepted in
the Western States Ultra Marathon to be held June 28th, 2008. This is the
ultra marathon, the equivalent of “Westminster” for runners. The Run is
conducted along the Western States Trail starting at Squaw Valley, CA, and
ending in Auburn, CA, a total of 100 miles. The course follows the original
trails used by the gold and silver miners of the 1850’s. Most of the trail
passes through remote and rugged territory, accessible only to hikers,
horses and helicopters. Additional information on the run can be seen on the
official race website:
http://www.ws100.com. You can also view a short video about the race by

Bobby thought it would be a good idea to use his
participation in this event to raise money for Take the Lead, and we need
your support. Take the Lead was founded in 1993 as a not-for-profit
foundation under Section 501 (c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code dedicated to
